Guidelines

How we write here.

A short, practical standard for contributors, commenters and everyone in between.

What we publish

Specific, reported, felt writing. A story should be able to answer why it exists and who it is for. We prefer one clear idea carried well over a survey of everything.

Pitching

Tell us the story in two paragraphs, name the journal you think it belongs in, and say what you can show — people you can speak to, records you can read, work you have seen.

Accuracy and sourcing

Name your sources where you can. Give subjects a fair chance to respond. Numbers need a provenance. If something is your opinion, write it as opinion.

Disclosure

Declare any commercial relationship with the people or companies you write about. Partner and sponsored work is labelled, and advertisers get no say over editorial coverage.

Comments

Comments are moderated. Argue with ideas, not people. No harassment, hate speech, doxxing or spam. Repeat breaches cost you the account.

Corrections

We correct openly. If we get something wrong, email editorial@everydaymuse.co.za and we will fix it and say that we did.
