Community

Where the ink matters.

Everyday Muse is an editorial community, not a feed. These are the standards every writer, founder, photographer and reader agrees to when they publish or comment here.

Principles

Six things we hold to

01

Write true things

Every claim of fact should be something you would defend in public. Name your sources, mark opinion as opinion, and correct yourself openly when you get it wrong.

02

Credit the work of others

Quote fairly, link back, and never present someone else's writing, photography or research as your own. Plagiarism ends a contributor relationship immediately.

03

Treat people as people

Robust disagreement is welcome. Contempt, harassment, slurs and threats are not — including in the comments under your own story.

04

Tell readers who is paying

Sponsored stories, partner content and business relationships are always disclosed and clearly labelled. Editorial coverage is never for sale.

05

Respect privacy

Do not publish someone's private information, and take extra care with stories involving trauma, health, children or ongoing legal matters.

06

Keep it human

You may use tools to help you draft, but the thinking, reporting and voice must be yours, and you remain accountable for every word published under your name.

Conversation

Comments

  • Comments open on published stories and are read by a moderator when reported.
  • Off-topic promotion, spam links and repeated self-promotion are removed.
  • Personal attacks on authors, subjects or other readers are removed.
  • Hate speech, incitement and harassment lead to a permanent account suspension.
  • Reported comments are hidden from public view while a moderator reviews them.

Enforcement

What happens when a line is crossed

  1. A note

For a first, minor breach an editor or moderator explains the problem and asks for a change.

  2. An edit or removal

Content that breaks the guidelines is edited, unpublished or removed, with a note to the author.

  3. Paused publishing

Repeat breaches pause your ability to publish while the editorial desk reviews your account.

  4. Suspension

Plagiarism, fabrication, harassment and hate speech end in a suspended account.

Report

If something is wrong

Use the report action on any story or comment, and a moderator will review it. For anything serious, sensitive or legal, write to the editorial desk directly.
